Meet at the North Ridge Mountain Guides (NRMG) base camp at 9:00 am. You'll carpool to a local climbing area, and after a short hike you'll come to a snowy hill where the course will take place. Learn mountaineering basics such as crampon techniques, self arrest, avalanche awareness, and basic roped travel. If conditions permit, there may be a chance to do some glissading before the walk out. Head back to the NRMG base camp to debrief, check the forecast for the following day's summit, and talk about proper hydration and nutrition for the climb.
This morning meet at the NRMG basecamp at 7:00 am and carpool to the trailhead at the base of Mt. Washington. Begin the ascent along the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail, passing several waterfalls along the way. As the route increases in elevation and begins to get steeper, take a quick stop to put on crampons and grab the ice ax for easier maneuvering. Along the way take another short break at Lake of the Clouds Hut to prepare for weather before the final push to the summit. The full hike will be 8.2 miles roundtrip and between 8-12 hours of hiking. After reaching the trailhead, carpool back to base camp and depart.
